Wellness Destination: Heal Haus, Brooklyn, NY

I dream of one day having a wellness spot walking distance from my home that can be my wellness version of the bar from the 80s-90s show, Cheers (where everyone knows my name). For readers who are not “elder millennials” like me or older: Cheers was a show that centered around a Boston Bar where everyone literally knew the name of regulars and bar staff and everyone shared their life experiences with each other while drinking or working at the bar. Lord knows why I was watching Cheers in the 90s as a kid, but the idea of having a regular spot to visit where everyone knows you on a first name basis is deeply appealing to me as a city dweller in this technology-centric world that can often feel disconnected and impersonal. So until I manifest my own wellness version of Cheers near where I live, I'll be content to visit Heal Haus when I'm in Brooklyn.

Heal Haus is an inclusive holistic wellness destination in Clinton, Brooklyn that is "committed to building a community that is dedicated to changing the stigma attached to healing." Heal Haus offers classes that cater to the mind body and spirit (i.e. yoga, meditation, etc.) along with an array of workshops around subjects like Community-based Acupuncture, New & Full Moon Rituals, Reiki Healing, Sound Baths, and much much more.  The Heal Haus’s wellness practitioners have diverse variety of experiences and individual paths. Heal Haus also has a cafe with delicious teas, smoothies, elixirs, and an assortment of vegan & gluten free baked goods. I hope wellness spots like Heal Haus that cater to people of color and other marginalized groups pop up in other major cities because they are vitally needed in all communities but particularly in black and brown communities.

I visited Heal Haus during the summer while in the NYC area for a New Moon Ritual Workshop. It was such a welcoming space even during my short visit. I highly recommend visiting the Heal Haus if you live in or are visiting the NYC area, it’s worth the trip to have a delicious drink + snack and soak up the atmosphere or to take a yoga class or workshop.
