Missing Travel

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is missing all types of things that used to be normal before 2020. I miss hugs. I miss talking with strangers without the layer of anxiety of respectfully social distancing. I miss sitting in busy coffee shops with my laptop to write. I miss going dancing at clubs until I’m sweaty late into the night. I miss taking hot yoga classes in crowded yoga studios. But one thing I really miss (maybe more than most other things) is travel. I miss all of the aspects of the travel experience from researching and planning a trip, to the anticipation of being en route to a destination, to living the travel experience.

New Orleans 2016

Whenever I travel whether I’m with others or on my own, I learn something about myself. I get to experience new things. I learn a piece of history about the place I’m visiting whether it’s the first time I’ve been there or the fifth time. I will try to take a travel-oriented mindset when the world opens up more and curate ‘travel’ experiences in my own city to generate the same feelings of exploration I get from hopping on a plane to go a few states away or a few countries away. I’m starting by making a bucket list for myself of things to do and places to explore this Spring and Summer (more on that in a separate post). I also want to list out restaurants I want to try with varied cuisines from other countries. It may be a while before I’m on a plane again to go somewhere far away, but I can travel in my own back yard for now and day dream about the destinations I hope to experience first hand in the future.
